Taiwanese DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) maker ProMOS announced on May 28 that it plans to build its fourth 12-inch plant in the Houli site of the Central Taiwan Science Park by the end of the 2007, with an estimated investment of US$2.5 billion. With construction scheduled to be completed within 12 to 13 months, the new facility is expected to turn out 70,000 units monthly, augmenting the company's 12-inch chip output to 200,000 units per month. Details on whether the plant will produce DRAM or flash memory chips, and whether the plant will leverage 60-nm process technology or not were not yet disclosed. At present, ProMOS's third 12-inch plant in Taiwan and an eight-inch plant in Chongqing of central China are both still under construction.
